Need easy plants to grow? Try the trendy succulents.

Succulents are popular again and easy to grow. You may remember your grandmother growing these plants in containers on her back porch.

Tips for healthy Succulents

  • Full sun at least 2 to 3 hours a day.
  • Always grow them in a cactus mix potting soil.
  • They do not like excessively wet soil, so remember not to over water them.
  • Temperatures should never go below 35 degrees.

Uses for Succulents

  • Succulents also make wonderful accents in your fresh bouquets for the vintage look.
  • You can use them as boutonnieres and in bouquets for weddings.
  • Try making a wreath out of them for your home.

These are just some examples, there are countless ways to use this old friend with their unique colors and wonderful textures.

What you need to make a wreath out of succulents:
  • Floral wire wreath frame 10” or larger
  • Sphagnum moss
  • Floral greening pins
  • Florist paddle wire
  • Wooden floral pick or pencil
  • Succulents
  • Root hormone (if using clippings)

Assembling your succulent wreath:
  1. Start with stuffing your wreath from the backside with the sphagnum moss
  2. Packing it tight. Using the florist paddle wire wrap wreath and moss to make sure it holds.
  3. Now turn the wreath over and add a second layer of moss packing it tight as well.
  4. Repeat the banding again with the florist paddle wire.
  5. The next step is to make a small hole in the moss with a shape pointed object such as a wooden floral pick or pencil.
  6. Insert the roost of a succulent into the hole.
  7. If you are using cutting dip the prepared succulent first into the root hormone.
  8. Then using your greening pin hook the stem of the succulent to secure it in the moss, being careful not to puncture the stem.
  9. Repeat this step until you have worked your way around the entire wreath. (Remember to leave space between each succulent as they are alive and will continue to grow and fill in the void spaces)
  10. Leave your wreath laying flat for 3-6 weeks until the roots start to grow and secure them selves to the moss.
  11. Spray with a mister bottle with water occasionally.
  12. Remember, not too much! Too much water will kill them. They love lots of sunlight so make sure you give them plenty of sun.
